Chinese Journal of Geochemistry

Instructions to Authors

Submission of manuscripts
Manuscripts should be submitted in duplicate to the Editorial Committee of the Chinese Journal of Geochemistry, The Institute of Geochemistry, 73 Guanshui Road, Guiyan 550002, P.R. China. Manuscripts must be typed with double line spacing, single-sided on A4 sheets, and should be numbered consecutively beginning with the title page. The first page of an article should contain only (1) title of the paper, the name(s) and address(es) of the author(s), (2) a short title (running head) not exceeding 50 characters, (3) name and address of the author to whom correspondence and proofs should be sent. An abstract of 50--250 words and 4--8 keywords should be included with all manuscripts and follow the title page on a separate sheet. When a wordprocessor is used in preparing the manuscript, a hard copy output according to the above style must be submitted.

Text
Headings and subheadings for different sections of the paper (e.g. Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusion) should be clearly indicated. Detailed mathematical discussions should be place in an appendix. Units of measurement, abbreviations and symbols should follow the International System of Units (SI). Equations and formulae should be typewritten wherever possible. Equations should be numbered consecutively with arabic numerals in parentheses on the right-hand side of the page. Special symbols should be identified in the margin. Type or mark mathematical equations exactly as they should appear in print.

Tables and figures
Tables should be given short informative titles and should be numbered consecutively in arabic numerals. Tables may be reproduced by photo-offset, i.e. directly from the typed manuscript. Figures in a form suitable for reproduction should be submitted separately from the text as original drawings in India ink, or high contrast, sharp, unmounted photographs on glossy paper. Lettering on figures should be proportional to the size of the figure to ensure legibility after reduction. On the back of each figure should be indicated lightly in soft pencil: (1) the top of the figure by an arrow. (2) the author and the figure number. All chemical structures should be supplied as artwork suitable for direct reproduction. All figures and tables should be cited consecutively in the text and a list of captions should be provided at the end of the paper.

References and reference section
The references should be cited in the text by the name of the author(s) and year. References should be listed at the end of the paper in the reference section in alphabetical order.

References to articles from journals should be given in this order: last name(s) of author(s), initials, year, title of periodical (according to the style of the AAPG Bulletin, volume number, first and last relevant page numbers, e.g.:

Simoneit, B.R.T., 1986, Biomarker geochemistry of black shales from Cretaceous oceans - an overview: Marine Geology, v. 70, p. 9--41.

References to a paper or chapter in a book, an authored book, and an edited book should be listed according to the following style:

Brassell, S.C., A.P. Gowar, and G. Eglinton, 1981, Computerised gas chromatography - mass spectometry in analyses of sediments from the Deep Sea Drilling Project, in A.G. Douglas and J.R. Maxwell, eds., Advances in organic geochemistry: v. 9, p. 421--426.

Sarjeant, W.A.S., 1974, Fossil and living dinoflagellates: London, Academic Press, 182 p.

Brooks, J. and D. Welte, eds., Advances in petroleum geochemistry: London, Academic Press, 324 p.

If a publication is in press, the reference should be made as complete as possible, e.g. by stating the name of the journal and adding `in press'.

The publisher will supply thirty free offprints of each paper.
