The Flat-footed Flies (Diptera: Opetiidae and Platypezidae) of Europepresents a detailed account of the taxonomy, biology and distribution ofthe 44 European species of Opetiidae and Platypezidae. Two of these arehere described as new to science. Known larvae develop in the largerfungi; adults are honey-dew feeders on broad leaves.
Both families are characterised and proposals on their relationships andphylogeny are discussed. All European species are keyed and described indetail. Adult and larval biology are renewed. The provincialdistribution of 35 species occurring in Fennoscandia and Denmark islisted in a detailed catalogue.
The work presents identification keys to genera and species and for eachspecies descriptions and accounts of its nomenclature, biology anddistribution. Known early stages are keyed to genera and described undereach species. Altogether 427 line drawings and 6 beautiful colourillustrations accompany the text.
