Chitons form a peculiar and highly interesting class of molluscs, knownwith certainty to exist since the Ordovician, and widespread in allworld seas, with great concentrations along the west coast of NorthAmerica and in Australia, to depths from 0 to over 7,000 m. During thepast decades taxonomists all over the world have much contributed to ourknowledge of the chitons and their synonymy.
