Modelling of forest stands, forest growth and forest ecosystems iscurrently developing intensively and recently there have beenconsiderable achievements in forest ecology and in practicalapplications. This study presents a critical review of modern approachesin simulation, spatial and theoretical (analytical) mathematicalmodelling of forest stands, soils and ecosystems with special referenceto more promising trends of forest modelling and its practical andtheoretical significance in ecologically oriented forestry. The workalso offers a comprehensive discussion of theoretical models of forestcommunities and a system of forest models for more effective solving ofdifferent theoretical and practical problems. It also gives specialemphasis on the state-of-the-art in Russian forest modelling.
