Forest Spiders of South East Asia offers the first comprehensivesystematic account of all sac and ground spiders of South East Asia,which together constitute an estimated 12% of all spiders in theregion. All ten subfamilies, 57 genera and numerous species of theregion are defined, described, and illustrated. One new subfamily and alarge number of new genera and species are described and named. Severalhundreds additional, described and new, species are referred to.Distribution of all species covered in this volume is shown in 50 maps.More than a thousand line drawings and 16 colour photographs are used toillustrate the descriptions of the species, of which the great majorityhas never been illustrated before.

The book provides a modern revision of all sac and ground spiders withclear illustrated diagnosis and descriptions of all known members ofthis group and many new species and genera. Identification of all 47families occurring in the region is illustrated in beautiful anddetailed drawings.

The work will be of special interest to academics, professionals andeducated laymen. It will be a useful handbook for spider taxonomists,field workers and others involved in spider-related ecological studies,biodiversity and conservation, and studies in zoogeography and appliedbiology.

Christa L. Deeleman-Reinhold (University of Leiden, 1978) haspublished numerous, mainly taxonomic, papers on spiders from caves andforests in the Balkans, Greece and the tropical Orient, including arevision of the Dysderinae and the Ochyroceratidae.
