G.J. Nabuurs, R. Päivinen, A. Pussinen and M.J. Schelhaas
In Europe, forest policy discussions are moving towards aEuropean-Union-wide strategy. This will further strengthen the relationsbetween the European countries in the field of forests and forestmanagement. European-wide forest planning and decision-making requirethat policy-makers have insight in the long-term development of Europeanforests under alternative regimes. The European Forest InformationScenario Model (EFISCEN) was used to make projections of the developmentof the European forests under four different scenarios. This bookaddresses the consequences of each scenario for wood production, biodiversity, and the environmental functions of the forest. The resultsprovide policy-makers with a challenge of whether to intervene in theongoing trend of build-up of growing stock and whether to choose betweenenhancing biodiversity, increasing the use of domestically produced woodproducts, or to combine them.
This title will be of anyone working in the field of forest modellingand forest policy, in academia, industry and NGO's.
