The development of the theory of inverse problems stems mainly fromapplied research. Most publications in this field are designed forthose who have a broad understanding of inverse problems andapplications. This monograph is based on a series of lectures, whichthe author has given at Moscow State University, and focuses on thebasic theory of inverse problems.
The first chapter can be considered as an introduction to the theoryof inverse problems, with examples of both inverse and ill-posedproblems, as well as methods of their solution. The followingchapters deal with: inverse problems for ordinary differentialequations; inverse problems for linear partial differentialequations; inverse coefficient problems for partial differentialequations; determining functions for one or two variables byintegrals of these functions; methods of solution of inverseproblems. At the end of each chapter exercises are included to assistreaders in gaining a better understanding of the subject matter, andalso to broaden the material presented there.
This monograph will be of value and interest to those interested inthe theory of inverse problems.
