Editors: H. Fujiki, E. Hecker, R.E. Moore, T. Sugimura and I.B.Weinstein
Considerable progress in our understanding of tumorpromotion has been made by cancer researchers throughout the world. Inaddition, scientists in several other disciplines have made significantcontributions in elucidating the pleiotropic effects of tumor promotion. This international symposium was specifically convened to reviewresearch progress in these areas and to consider the relevance of thesefindings to human cancer causation and prevention. The proceedingsinclude the contributions of leading researchers from Europe, Japan andthe USA. Several papers report the exciting progress made inunderstanding how tumor promoters act at the cellular and biochemicallevels.
Elsewhere attention is focused on tumor promotion as an important phasein the occurrence of certain human tumors. It is hoped that advances inthe understanding of the mechanism of tumor promotion in experimentalsystems will lead to new and effective approaches to human cancerprevention. The proceedings will be of interest and value to researchersworking in cancer research, biochemistry, molecular genetics, mutagenesis and cell biology.
