The Qinghai-Xizang Plateau is formed of a complex of small terranesaccreted together. The boundaries between these terranes are defined bylinear outcrops of dismembered ophiolite suite that mark the position ofancient oceanic tracts. This book is a summary of new data and aresearch results obtained by the author and other geology scholars, bothin China and abroad, and presents evidence concerning the origin andchronology of successive collisions of continental fragments withEurasian or Gondwanian provenance and discusses the mechanisms by whichthe plateau evolved and the crust was doubled in thickness.
