Land vascular plants originated in the Late Silurian and Early Devonian,about 400 million years ago. Most vascular plants have been adaptingvery well to terrestral environments by changing their configurations.Most historical plants are extinct. New and important data of anatomicalstructures of fossil plants from Silurian to Tertiary have beenaccumulated in China during the last two decades. Anatomical structuresof fossil plants, including 54 species of ferns, gymnosperms andangiosperms in China, are described and illustrated in this atlas.Delicate photographs of light and scanning electron microscopes showdetails of epidermal cuticle, ground tissues and vascular structures ofleaves, stems, roots, sporangia and seeds.
