Diffusion of Electrolytes in Polymers

New Concepts in Polymer Science

G.E. Zaikov, A.L. Iordanskii and V.S. Markin

The phenomenon of diffusion of electrolytes is present inalmost all man-made and natural polymeric materials. The understandingof the role of diffusion in the process of modification and degradationof polymers is necessary in view of the important impact on theirperformance.

This volume deals particularly with the transport of chemically activefluids through polymers. Such information is not only essential for theinvestigation of hydrolytic degradation of heterochain polymers andprediction of the effective lifetimes of protective polymer coatings, but will also prove helpful towards gaining a deeper insight into theprocesses of biological degradation of polymers intended for use inmedicine, e.g. artificial organs and surgical sutures.

This volume will be of interest for researchers and engineers engaged inthe production, processing and application of polymers.
