Metallized Plastics 5&6: Fundamental and Applied Aspects

Editor: K.L. Mittal

This book chronicles the proceedings of the 5th and 6thsymposia on Metallized Plastics: Fundamental and Applied Aspects, held in May 1996 and September 1997 respectively. This volumecontains 29, carefully reviewed, revised and up-dated papers whichwere presented at both symposia.

The book is divided in the following three parts: MetallizationTechniques and Properties of Metal Deposits; SpectroscopicInvestigation of Interfacial Interactions; Surface Modification andAdhesion Aspects. Topics covered include: various metallizationtechniques for a variety of plastic substrates and simplification ofelectroless method by using plasma or UV laser pretreatment; variousproperties of metal deposits; investigation of metal-polymerinterfaces using a variety of spectroscopic techniques; interactionof metals with self-assembled monolayers; study of early stages ofmetal-polymer interface formation; surface modification of plasticsby a host of techniques including plasma, excimer laser, ion beamsand characterization of modified plastics surfaces; surfacemodification of polymers used in the low Earth Orbit spaceenvironment; adhesion aspects of metallized plastics including aquantitative adhesion test for metal coated polymer fibers andnondestructive techniques for monitoring metallized plastics adhesion.

This volume offers a wealth of information and represents currentcommentary on the R&D activity taking place in the technologicallyhighly important field of metallized plastics and is of value andinterest to anyone interested in the fundamental or applied aspectsof metallized plastics.
